The farm is currently making bat houses which make a great gift. Designed by farm interns Bo Wardlow and Maci Rodrigue, we are offering these bathouses as fund raiser for the farm and Bo and Maci. They make great gifts and given the current state of bats in the Eastern United States, it’s important that we support our local bats. The White Nose fungus which is destroying Eastern Brown Bats hasn’t made it to New Mexico and hopefully it won’t. There are some great reasons to put up Bat Houses but here are a few.
- Bat houses benefit bats, you, your family, communities, farmers, gardeners and the ecosystem as a whole.
- Bat houses give bats a home and in turn they will eat thousands of insects.
- Bat houses give bats an alternative to our houses thus reducing the chance of human to bat contact.
- Bat populations have decreased significantly and bat houses can help provide secure habitat.
The proceeds from sale of bat houses will benefit Bo and Maci funding their next journey to a new permaculture farm. Let’s help Bo and Maci and more importantly, let’s help the bats. Give the gift of a bat house today!
